What about the basics of geography, which you can learn right in the yard of your own home? Sounding streams after rain give a child a wonderful opportunity to imagine how a real river “works” and what kind of relief the earth's surface has. We need a fast and steady stream and the desire to explore it. First of all, imagine with your baby that this stream is not really a stream at all, but a wide and stormy river. She just seems so small to you. Every river has two banks - left and right. Figure out where each one is with your baby and go on a trip. You can move in two directions: upstream and downstream. If you're lucky, you may even be able to find the source and mouth of your stream or river. The source (the place where the river begins) of the rain stream will most likely be at a large puddle, and if you are lucky, at the top of a snowdrift. Real rivers, as a rule, begin high in the mountains and are “fed” by melted snow and springs. So our stream at first flows in a thin trickle, but along the way more and more new streams join it, and it becomes wider and fuller. Small streams that flow into large rivers are called tributaries. Moving down the bed of the stream, you and your baby will certainly see these tributary streams. The river bed is never straight; it bends all the time, avoiding natural obstacles and forming bends. Along the way, you will come across miniature copies of real waterfalls, you will notice that the water flows quickly from the hill (talk to your child about mountain rivers), and along the “plain” it runs smoothly and leisurely. In an ordinary stream you can find whirlpools, shoals, and rapids. Everything is like a real river. But there is a branch to the side and there is a lake. There is no current here, the water is stagnant, but the wind drives waves across the puddle in the same way as across a real lake. If you are lucky, your stream will not end in a sewer drain, but will, together with other similar streams, flow into a huge puddle. This puddle is a miniature copy of the sea. In the same way, real rivers flow into the sea, and the place where they connect with the sea is called the mouth. If your child takes a long-handled shovel with him on a trip, he can use it to build a dam from sand and sticks. You can dig a small hole nearby and divert water from the stream there - and here you have an artificial reservoir. And it’s impossible to even list how many “near-water” topics can be touched upon during such a walk. And then how many interesting books you can read at home on the topic of rivers, seas and ships! By the way, “geographical” construction can also be done on a sandy beach. It’s so fun to build mountains out of sand, lay river beds, build dams and artificial reservoirs together with your baby.

The easiest way to explain to a child how the world works geographically is by playing matryoshka dolls. Mom, dad and child (family) live in a house, the house is on the street, the street is in the city, the city is in the country, the country is on the mainland (continent), the continent is on the hemisphere, and the hemispheres form a planet - the Earth. Parks, gardens and public gardens. This means you can start studying the landscape, flora and fauna! And if you and your child later draw everything on paper, you will get a map. You can make an infinite number of plans and maps, depicting, for example, the road to the nearest store, counting the steps and doing everything to scale. And then go according to the drawn plan for milk, for example.

As your child learns to navigate his or her country, remind him that countries “live” on a continent. Let him get acquainted with the map of your continent. If your child has friends living in other countries of the continent, show him these countries; if he knows about the existence of foreign languages, mark on the map the countries where they are spoken, etc. Remind your child that continents “live” on Earth. Show him maps of five (or six) continents. Then take a globe or, better yet, a large plastic inflatable ball, onto which, using a thick felt-tip pen, draw the outlines of each continent. Compare it to a map of the hemispheres and explain that maps do not actually reflect the actual locations of the continents. Since the earth is round, the ends of the hemisphere map should touch. After that, use your manuals, repeat what you have learned - from a country to its continent, then to other continents, to the entire globe and, finally, to the solar system.

Task: Buy two identical small cards. Hang one of them on the wall, stick the other on a piece of loose cardboard or a sheet of drawing paper and dry it under a press. Cut into 12-15 rectangles. They will turn out quite large. Look at the whole map with your child, show and name large geographical objects - continents, oceans, large islands, rivers, seas. Take one cut card and examine it. Invite your child to find the same fragment on the map and name parts of which objects can be seen on it. Let him try to collect the entire map. After some time, cut the existing rectangles into two parts - some along, some across. Play also. Try to find the fragments depicted on your cards on maps of a different scale. If the map is large, it can be used like hopscotch. Encourage your child to jump from Africa to Australia, North America or India. You can divide the map with a felt-tip pen into sections, for example, each hemisphere in half and then in half again. Jumping across the “cells”, the player can name any geographical object located in this “cell”. Show the child the equator, offer to walk along the equator as if on a “tightrope”. Take small toy boats, for example, from Kinder Surprise chocolate eggs. Play around the world by moving through the cells by rolling the dice. Or along the routes of famous travelers, dividing these lines into “paths” with dots. Along the way, discuss the seas and oceans in which you “are”. Draw lines on the map for moves, just like in a regular game with tiles and dice. The lines can go from one edge of the map to the other, or in a circle, or branch in different directions. During the game, moving along the lines, tell your child where he “is” and what is interesting and unusual there. For school-aged children, ask questions or tasks related to this place or type of geographical feature (river, sea, mountain). Play the famous voyages - follow the route of Columbus, Magellan, Bering or Cook. Before starting the game, you can review the desired chapter in the children's encyclopedia. Instead of chips, you can use small toys, for example, from Kinder Surprise.

Take pictures from zoological lotto. Lay them out on the map by continent or, more precisely, in one or another part of the continent - in the mountains, on a river or lake, in the desert or in forests. Children who are familiar with the geographical map participate in the game. An adult gives a description of a particular object - gradually, starting with general definitions, moving on to more specific ones. For example: this is an island, it is located in the eastern hemisphere, located in the Pacific Ocean, and such and such a city is located on it... Or is it a river located in Eurasia, flows there, and such and such a city stands on it. During the game, children make assumptions. Whoever guesses what is being said faster gets a point. You can play this game outside the city - in a summer cottage or on the river bank, where there is sand, water and the opportunity to get dirty from head to toe. Build your own fairyland from sand, pebbles, and sticks. Let there be mountains, rivers, ravines in it. Forests can be made from blades of grass, hills from stones, mountains from sand, lakes can be dug. Give each object its own name - “Adventure Island”, “Mountain of Luck” and so on. Try drawing a map of your country (at first only with a pencil), and then coloring the geographical features as they should be. Draw a coordinate grid on the map and practice finding the coordinates of the desired objects. Come up with a game with your own rules, where you will need to walk around the map and look for something (for example, treasure).

Create an album for each continent or each country, whichever is more convenient for you. The title of the album should be written on the title page, and next to it (top or bottom) should be an image of the continent. Any pictures related to the mainland indicating the name, location and country are suitable for display in such an album: • photographs of architectural objects: “Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. State of Arizona, USA", •photographs of any plants and animals: "The dingo dog lives in the deserts of Australia", "The giant panda lives only in bamboo forests in China."

You need to create albums for those continents for which you have material, but no more than two for each continent, and maybe one is enough, just sometimes change groups of topics. You need to look through these albums (as well as any others) only according to your mood - as many times a day or a week as possible.

Game-task: The game involves children who can read and are familiar with a geographical map. On small pieces of paper, an adult writes in advance the names of various geographical objects - cities, seas, rivers, mountains, etc. On the larger pieces of paper there is a general name “MOUNTAINS”, “RIVERS”, etc. The players can divide into teams, or they can each play for themselves. 1 version of the game Each player or team receives one or more large cards. At the leader’s command, the players begin to lay out small names of mountains under each large card - under the word “MOUNTAINS” and so on. Small cards are interspersed. You can choose not a pair, but a three (by the same principle - the city, the river on which it stands and the country in which it is all located, etc.). The more pairs, triplets or even fours a player finds, the more points he gets.

Option 5 If you have images of flags of different countries, then you can match the name of the country to the image. For flags, you can select not only countries, but also the names of cities and other geographical objects that are located in the country that has such a flag. This game is played with a poster depicting the flags of the countries of the world so that the child can refer to it during the game.

Expeditions with Winnie the Pooh

For kids with their developed imagination and wild imagination, any event that seems insignificant in our opinion can become a geographical adventure. Remember how Christopher Robin, along with his friends Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Donkey and Rabbit, went on an expedition to find and discover the North Pole?
